Preparing The Land
FROM THE LAND TO THE  (HU) MAN
We thought we would start our review by actually showing how
we prepared the land and planted food that ended up becoming
the above edible and/or saleable produce.
We selected this section of
the farm's planting surface, to
show how the preparation of
land is accomplished.  This
had been an early spring crop
of spinach that was available
for subscribers, during the
whole month of April.  As you
can see the land around the
spinach has already been
prepared.
Mr. Jennings had put out the word to his subscribers that he would
give them a week to pick as much of the spinach as possible.  After
one week he was going to turn the soil over for planting.  This was
where we at "The African Art Shop" became "Organic farmers".
It was quite an experience just
getting down on all fours and
running your fingers through the
dirt
I wish I could make you
understand how fantastic it
felt to actually hold a freshly
picked spinach leaf.
But it took Myrtie Whytus an experienced
subscriber to actually show us how it is done.
You take a large
knife and preferably
try to get as much of
the root out of the
ground as possible.
This is definitely a job
that requires you to
become one with the
earth
